While APP crashes are inevitable, SP Group’s chargers actually let us charge for free during any downtime.
Could this be a good charger to rely on?
Lets list the pros and cons of SP Chargers in Singapore.
Pros:
- Charging cost are the lowest per kilowatt hour.
- Easy to charge over night as its located in carparks that allow you to park overnight
- Stop paying when your car has been charged full
Cons:
- Pay for parking
- Inconvenient locations
- Least number of chargers ( Network is getting bigger)
- Unable to start charging remotely from your mobile (Unless you took note or have a picture of the charger QR code before you leave)
Back to this interesting notification that was sent out yesterday as the SP Utilities Charger network went down. They actually have a good service where they allow EV / Electric Car users to charge the car even though the APP network is down.
Since 1839 on 29 May 2021, the network has been down and it looks like many chargers went offline. SP group did take a long time to react to this and sent out a notification around 9pm that night giving us access to the chargers for free from until 1am the next day.
However currently it is 6am the next day and the SP Utilities App is still not working fully but is able to use to pay for charging now. Am I the only one that think that the longer the downtime the better for us EV users?
I’m really tempted to go to a SP group charger to try this out even though I already had plans to head to Ikea to charge. I hope this post shows you how committed SP Utilities is to provide good service to EV users unlike many other companies. They are ran by SP Group formally known as Singapore Power which is a government-owned electricity and gas distribution company in Singapore so this isn’t a surprise however!
JTC which also builds EV chargers on their premises is far from friendly to electric vehicle charging. They do not know how to operate or maintain their chargers at all, shame on them as they closed 2 of their chargers at Mediacorp just because the chargers were providing charging for free and they did not know how to operate it. If you ask me, these lazy management individuals really should not be operating EV chargers if they have such a mindset.
