Best and Worst points of Electric Cars

In this post, I’ll list out the good and bad points of owning an electric vehicle.

Good

  1. Quiet – Most spoken positive points and the least important point to consider when purchasing an electric car or vehicle
  2. Maintenance Free – This point is dependent on the vehicle model but is one of the most misunderstood. Read more here.
  3. Reserved parking at public or shopping mall car parks.
  4. Torque is great and acceleration is instant depending on your vehicle, the New BYD E6(MPV) doesn’t have this so do a test drive of the vehicle for yourself to have a feel for this.

Bad

  1. Charging Convenience – if you are reliant on public chargers, you may end up with a huge inconvenience in Singapore. I’m reliant on public charging and a mobile charger to get my car fully charged.
  2. Maintenance – So far, little to no maintenance is required but uncertainty is present where workshops have no idea what they should do most of the time. We may need to go back to taking out the user manual and finding servicing steps and requirements if you do not have a workshop that is familiar with your vehicle. For my Nissan Leaf, if you do not mind paying more you may just head back to Tan Chong and they will settle your maintenance for a fee.
  3. Heavy – If you think the engine is no longer in the vehicle and your car is lighter you are so wrong. Batteries in these electric vehicles are heavy.
  4. Little Options Available – This is true in 2023 but more options are coming out soon and BYD has one of my favorite models.
  5. Traveling long distances – If you are thinking of going to Malaysia with this vehicle, it would be a small inconvenience. So far I’ve been into the country once with a fully charged vehicle and the experience wasn’t too bad if you are traveling to Johor.

If you realize, more negative points are in this article. Do realize that the negative points
