Thinking about charging your vehicle overnight? Here are some tips to guide and plan your way to having a full battery overnight without angering other EV charger users.
For the best results, you should be staying near any sort of charger. Whether it is SP, Greenlots, or BlueSG, Charge+ or CDG, there are usually different payment options. You should look for chargers that charge you per kWh, also note whether there are idling fees after charging has ended. (CDG is usually cheaper)
The first thing to note is how long will your car charge from 5% to 100%. Do note that charging is usually faster between 0-80%, and from 80-100%, it usually takes twice as long. My Nissan Leaf charge from 5-100% in 7.5hrs and with that in mind I know I have about that time to leave the car overnight. As I stay relatively near a charger, I can park the car to charge at midnight and by the time I wake up at 730am, I would be able to head down to collect my fully loaded car.
Do note the speed of your car’s charger is important. For my example, the Nissan Leaf has a 6Kw charger on board so when I charge at a 32Kw charger, it will still charge at 6Kw. Remember, we love slow chargers to be able to charge overnight. If you have a car that is unable to charge slowly, you may not want to consider charging overnight at all.

I frequently charge near my place at a Shell Recharge charger, my daily trips have forced me to charge very frequently as I travel at least 40 km a day.
Charging at Shell Recharge also gives you the privilege of getting drinks or snacks $1 off its original price, I always buy fruit juice or milk because it is cheaper to buy at the petrol station with the discount. Surprise surprise! Who knew buying groceries at a petrol station could be cheaper than groceries at a supermarket?
