Owning an electric car is so different that car buyers will prefer not to purchase it. With that, most Singapore car buyers will agree that an EV is even tougher to use in Malaysia as there is a lack of chargers.
Most will also ask you, how are you going to drive to Malaysia or JB if you own an EV? My answer to that is simple, don’t buy an EV if you are looking to drive to Malaysia! It isn’t easy and definitely doesn’t give you the flexibility as the country is totally fit out for fuel transportation.
However, there is an option if you are looking to just drive around JB. The lack of chargers isn’t as prevalent in JB, it was tough for me to drive to Melaka the last trip but I’ve been making many trips to JB recently and I’ll say that it is not that bad! Check out my last video to Melaka.
When I plan my JB trip, it depends on 2 factors. Accommodation location and fast charging availability. As long as I have charger at my accommodation, I have no worries as to battery power as I can charge overnight. It will give me a full charge in the morning but this will limit my options. In this post, I’ll list the accommodations available with EV chargers that I’ll recommend.
Even with this limitation you will be able to find many accommodation but you will have to pay more. My recommendation is to stay at this hotel as it seem to have the best value and has a charger downstairs. You will need a charging cable to charge at this station though so be careful when charging in Malaysia, I’ll recommend having a type 2 to type 2 cable when driving into Malaysia.
My next option is to stay at any accommodation near a charger and it is preferred to be a fast charger. 30mins and BOOM! I’m fully charged. This will require a bit more research and understanding of the location and where the fast chargers are. I use PlugShare to get these info of the hotels and fast chargers nearby. If you like my recommendation for this option, I will recommend any hotel near Sutera Mall.
I’ll make another video about this trip and share this in a future episode on my YouTube channel so do stay tuned and follow me on Instagram or YouTube.
Now it is a difficult choice to buy an EV already. Why bother yourself with the thought of using an EV in Malaysia? I’ll help you by concluding that if you are using the car to go long distance in Malaysia, an EV may not be a good option for you but it could be a good option if you are looking to only travel around JB like I am in this video linked below. That’s all I have to share and I hope you will lead your life to the fullest. Thank you!
