Our road tax system here in Singapore is not the best place for an EV owner but with revisions hopefully on the way, we hope that this will soon change. Below are some of the road taxes that are expected in Singapore. The price estimates below are what you expect to pay per year. If you are also looking for more information about the electric vehicle range, check out my videos!

With the current road tax prices above, you can easily choose a vehicle that suits your needs. Do note that as the Singapore government reviews the regulations, these prices may change proportionally to its motor’s power rating. If you are wondering how this power rating is calculated, the power of each motor on the vehicle is added up together to come up with its final power rating. If the manufacturer designs a dual motor vehicle, this means that the 2 X 100kW motor would amount to 200kW. The government will tax you in the 200kW bracket which effectively means you will be paying almost double the amount of tax for the dual motor models!
Now we have all the information in the table above, which EV would likely fit your budget? Many forget that road tax and insurance will all increase when changing from a petrol/diesel vehicle to an electric model but this cost may be accepted if you run your vehicle a lot more than others would. When purely looking at all the road tax for EVs, I would consider the BRD Atto 3, the new E6, and the MG ZS. Of course, other factors will come into play when purchasing an electric vehicle and you should also consider insurance premiums, range, and charging compatibilities.
With that, I would leave you to consider and look at the road tax costs of these electric vehicles in Singapore. Let me know if you are looking to purchase an EV in 2024! @shotontarget on Instagram
